The results of child's drawing contest We are the nation of strong people conducted by OKKO filling complexes network in association with Ukrainian bohatyr Vasyl' Virastyuk and Angelyatko and Angelyatkova nauka magazines all over Ukraine for children in three age groups were summarized. Contest lasted since the 1st of September till the 1st of December 2009. The aim of the project consisted in patriotism education of preschool and primary school age children, concernment in cultural heritage (annalistic legendries, fairy-tales, historical dumy), knowledge and admiration with national heroes through the self-expression method accessible for children – drawing.
On the 2nd of December the long-expected winners determination took place. The chairman of the jury was Vasyl' Virastyuk, Ukrainian bohatyr and world champion, the jurymen were: L'viv woman artist, graphic artist, illustrator of the books (including children books) Olha Shynhur, magazines' editor Olena Volosevych and representative of OKKO filling complexes network Mane Akopyan.
Drawings were estimated by such criteria: conformity with the topic of contest, creative approach, quality of execution, imaginative expressiveness of the drawing, and also the independence of realization.
Generally, editorial staff received over 700 drawings from all over Ukraine, but we should note that the most active little artists were from L'viv, Ternopil', Rivne, Ivano-Frankivs'k and Vinnytsya regions.
The woman artist Olha Shynhur marked different techniques which were used when painting – gouache, pencils, water colour, pastel, graphic art, applique, extensional works, even oil paints and grattography.
«Children had understood the essence of the contest: bohatyr – it is not a physical power only, first of all it is moral courage. Their heroes defend family, their city from a dragon, enemy, they build a house, reap a harvest, and one dad-bohatyr just keeps a family with 5 children!» – Angelyatko magazine editor Olena Volosevych says.
All participants will get diplomas, regional and All Ukrainian winners will receive gifts from organizers. Vasyl' Virastyuk will hand the rewards for All Ukrainian winners in L'viv on the 12th of December, at the exhibition (72 Heroyiv UPA str.) of the best drawings of the contest.
